Cleaning up a Royal typewriter?

i have an old Royal typewriter that my dad gave me and i would love to refurburbish it. i have alittle bit of rust on the letter arms and the body and i was wondering whats the best thing to get it off without damaging the typewriter. i heard you can use scotch guard on it but im not sure. anything will help! thanks.
