Magnetism question....?

I'm uming your talking about a bar magnet with a N and S pole... it will align itself Parallel at the equator because it is following the field lines generated by the north and south poles of the earth. At the north and south poles of the earth, the field lines are coming out of the earth vertically. The magnet will again align itself with the field lines which are now vertical, so the magnet will stand on end
